‘Swansea MAD are proud to launch Swansea Past, Present and Future, an online store selling prints by renowned Swansea Artist Jeff Phillips. The entire collection, a total of 30 paintings, are currently on display at Swansea Railway Station and proceeds raised from the sale of prints will go towards the Jeff Phillips Art Scholarship. Swansea MAD have been working with Jeff for nearly 3 years and are very grateful and proud to be able to put this work together, which will show Swansea through the ages.’ – Geraint Turner of Swansea MAD:
Swansea MAD is delighted to continue its brilliant relationship with artist Jeff Phillips through the creation of a new online shop, featuring pieces from the Swansea Past, Present and Future collection. By creating this online shop, we are able to give people the chance to learn more about Swansea, and allow them to buy prints of Jeff’s incredible artwork.
The paintings span Swansea’s industrial history and feature famous faces from around Swansea such as Bonnie Tyler and Sir Harry Secombe. The collection has been exhibited with success in multiple locations recently including Swansea MAD’s very own office and Volcano Theatre. Currently, it is on display at Swansea Train Station, thanks to Great Western Railway, for staff and visitors to admire.
The money that is made from the shop will fund the Jeff Phillips Art Scholarship which successfully launched last year, sponsored by local business Viscose Closures. Through the scholarship, an emerging local artist, Ollie Pfiefer, received a development grant and tailored mentoring from Jeff Phillips himself, including working on several joint projects.
When talking about his work on the Swansea Past, Present & Future Collection, Jeff said: ‘Early in 2020, I proposed the idea of a project in which I could use my artwork, not only to tell the story of Swansea’s heritage and history but that could be used to create an art scholarship award. The project Swansea Past, Present and Future has now come about with the assistance of Swansea Music Art Digital.’
We hope to continue this wonderful relationship with Jeff for years to come and are excited to be releasing a podcast in conversation with Jeff and Ollie on their experiences of the scholarship soon. We are thrilled to be providing support for emerging artists through this very exciting opportunity, and we can’t wait to see the future outcomes.
